Day by Day Itinerary

DAY 1 - ARRIVE COCHIN

****   Arrive Cochin (Kochi) & Transfer to the hotel

DAY 2 - COCHIN VISIT

  • Breakfast at the hotel
  • Today visit the important places including Fort Cochin, Dutch Palace (closed on Fridays), Jewish Synagogue (closed on Fri & Sat, so can’t see from inside), St. Francis Church and finish off at the Chinese Fishing nets
  • Evening see the Kathakali dance drama for an hour
  • Overnight at the hotel

DAY 3 - COCHIN VISIT – MUNNAR (135 km / 4 & half hrs)

  • Breakfast at the hotel
  • Then Transfer by road to Munnar famous for its manicured tea gardens, cooler climate and the Nilgiti Tahr (species of goat). On the way visit Cheyyara waterfalls, Valara waterfalls and, a spice plantation (subject to leaving from Cochin not too late)
  • Overnight at the hotel

DAY 4 - MUNNAR VISIT

  • Breakfast at the hotel
  • Today visit Eravikulam national park (Raja Malai), Mattupetty dam, tea estates, eco point, spice plantation (if did not see yesterday), rose garden, photo point, honey bee tree, Tata Tea Museum (closed on Mondays), Blossom park, Kundale dam and Top Station
  • Overnight at the hotel

DAY 5 - MUNNAR – PERIYAR (115 km / 3 hrs)

  • Breakfast at the hotel
  • Transfer by road to Periyar. Enjoy the scenic beauty en route
  • Sightseeing destinations in Thekkady include Periyar wild life sanctuary where you can see wild elephant, boar, deer, the great Indian tiger and more (chances of sighting tiger is very less, but seeing other animals is most likely). Late afternoon take a boat cruise in the lake and experience the wilderness. Optional: Avail of the excellent Ayurvedic massage facility available at the hotel or nearby
  • Evening enjoy watching martial arts of Kerala called Kalaripayattu
  • Overnight at the hotel

DAY 6 - PERIYAR – ALLEPPEY (160 km / 4 hrs) – BACKWATERS

  • Breakfast at the hotel
  • Early Transfer to Alleppey – “The Gateway to the Backwaters” to board the houseboat
  • Board the houseboat, have Lunch and Cruise along the canals and the scenic lake, knock at your creative faculties and wake up the hidden poet or painter in you!
  • Continue cruising until about 5 pm. Later anchor at a quiet location in the backwaters

DAY 7 - HOUSEBOAT at Backwaters – KUMARAKOM

  • Breakfast at the houseboat
  • Get down at the finishing point and
  • Transfer to the hotel at Kumarakom, situated at the Vembanad lake
  • Rest of the day relax at the hotel. Enjoy the most scenic sunset in the lake
  • Overnight at the hotel

DAY 8 - KUMARAKOM

  • Breakfast at the hotel
  • This morning you can go to visit the Kumarakom bird sanctuary, hotel will assist you organize if keen
  • Rest of the day relax at the hotel
  • Go for fishing if interested, contact the hotel directly, they will assist you
  • Overnight at the hotel

DAY 9 - KUMARAKOM – KOTTAYAM (45 min) – TRAIN TO GOA

  • Breakfast at the hotel
  • First half is free to relax. Late afternoon transfer to Kottayam station for the train to Goa
  • Departure by Bikaner Express (you can order dinner on train or else get it packed from hotel)
  • Overnight on board the train

DAY 10 - ARRIVE MADGAON

  • Breakfast on board the train (pay directly)
  • Arrive at Madgaon station and Transfer to the hotel
  • Overnight at the hotel
